As I was setting up my painting gear the fog dissolved leaving a perfect day for painting and enjoying the rocky shore at Pacific Grove. There was just enough time to capture the image before the rocks gave way to the incoming surf and rising tide.

Morning Stillness

In painting this scene, I was trying to capture the variations of color and patterns in the water. And, if you look very closely, you may see the dragonflies that I included. They were so entertaining to watch as I painted.
Coming and Going

I painted this on a day when weather reports indicated the sun would be fleeting. Instead, it was sunshine all day. Such a joy! This painting began with an interest in the reflections of boats in the Santa Cruz Harbor. From my painting spot I was able enjoy the activity of sailors and kayakers heading in and out.

Colorful Capitola

I painted this plein air piece on a beautiful winter morning that offered a mix of clouds a few raindrops and breakthrough sunshine. I love the way Capitola has retained its own quirky character and hoped to capture some of that in this painting.
Waiting at the Bend

This plein air painting was painted at a beautiful spot along the Merced River in Yosemite known as Devil’s Bend.
Berkeley Marina

This was painted in early March at the marina in Berkeley. This was the last plein air painting I did before pandemic related stay-at-home orders went into effect. This boat was used for tours in San Francisco for 40 years.
Ayala Pair

Angel Island (in the San Francisco Bay) is one of my favorite spots. In this painting, I was attracted to a snug pair of boats in the Ayala Cove Harbor. This piece was exhibited as part of the California Art Club’s Juried Exhibition “Bay Area Parks” in 2019.
