This view of the convergence of ocean and coast brings us to Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach. As a painter it’s so fun painting the mix of colors and shapes of our coastal shallows.

I’ve painted at Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz many times. In this piece, there is only a hint of the archway. Instead of focusing on the opening in rock formation, I’m taking in the effects of the sunshine bouncing everywhere and the colors reflected in the water.

This was painted on-site in Point Lobos. While I worked away, I was amused by the antics of seabirds and sightseers shivering while taking photos at this well known spot on a very chilly July day.

This was painted in a shady spot on the shore of Alamitos Creek in San Jose. I didn’t paint the creek this time. Instead, I was attracted to the intermingled trunks of this collection of sycamore trees. This piece was done with a palette knife and no paint brushes.

I remember the beauty of driving along the 17 Mile Drive in the backseat of my parent’s car. These days, it’s a favorite painting destination. Usually I focus on the rocky shore. This time I took in the view of the bay with the white beach house set amongst dark coastal cypress.

I painted this to catch the feeling of a gorgeous rhododendron garden at a private residence in the Santa Cruz mountains.

I am delighted that my painting “Heading Out” was selected to be part of the 93rd Annual Statewide California Landscape Exhibit. It is particularly meaningful to me as the juror for the show is Calvin Laing. an artist I greatly admire. The show is full of gorgeous landscapes. If you’re in the area do check it out. The Santa Cruz Art League’s Gallery is located at 526 Broadway in Santa Cruz.

This view of China Cove in beautiful Point Lobos draws out attention to a couple walking on the beach below. In my take, I’m mesmerized by the green jewel-like colors of the shallow water as the light bounces off of the sand.
