View From Kavo Kortia

8″ x 10″ (private collection)

The combination of mountains and sea int he Greek Peloponnese is just gorgeous. I painted this piece focusing on the activity in a small harbor near Kyparissi while enjoying pre-dinner cocktails with friends on the terrace of our rented apartment. What great memories.

Kyparissi Rocks

6″ x 8″ oil on linen panel

I loved everything about painting the rocks above and below the water during my stay at Kavo Kortia. In this piece, I was trying to catch the colors of the sea just beyond the rocky pool in the foreground and the many colors of the rocks in it.

Kyparissi Sheep

6″ x 8″ (private collection)

I painted this before joining my friends for a swim. I knew there were sheep in the brush up the hill from the apartment we’d rented. On this afternoon, they were guided to the bluffs over the water where they served as groundskeepers.

Pocket Beach – Cavo Kortia

8″ x 10″ (private collection)

I enjoyed painting this little beach while in Greece. This was the spot from which my friends and I entered the calm water to swim, paddle-board and kayak. There were lovely sandy beaches nearby. Still I love the charm of this small rocky beach.

Beyond Devil’s Slide

30″ x 24″ oil on linen panel

The viewer is on the edge with the beauty of the Pacific Ocean just beyond unstable cliffs. I’m drawn to the mix of emotions that creep up cliffside.

Pillar Point Morning

11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel

Each time I paint at the harbor in Princeton By The Sea it reveals a different character. On the spring morning I painted this, conditions were calm with sunshine that came and went. Here, I’ve captured the sunshine.

Pocket Beach

11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel

Garrapata is one of my favorite places to paint. This time I wanted to give attention to a small beach nestled in a cove. The tide was just right to allow a sandy patch to be seen through the water to reflect beautiful greens in the sunshine.

Oasis

20″ x 16″ oil on linen panel

I was mesmerized by these native California Palms and their big skirts when hiking in Indian Canyons near Palm Springs.  In this piece, I am striving to create that sense of distance while retaining the feeling of being enveloped by the palms.
